I aim to improve by increasing my interaction with people who speak the foreign language fluently.

Section 1 'PROFILE': Language and Culture Questionnaire:
Task 3: Please completely, thoroughly, and honestly answer the following questions to build your language profile and portfolio. Post the questions and answer in the Language Development of your website.
Background:
1. What language(s) do you currently use?
- I use English and Arabic.
2. What languages have you studied and to what extent can you communicate in those forms?
- From the aspect of studying, I have studied English because it is a subject that is taught in school, whereas Arabic was used as a form to communicate not neccesariliy a studied subject.
3. What do you struggle most with when learning a language, even your native language?
- Arabic has many different dialects, and each dialect is unique and carries its own different words, and in order to understand this very complex language one has to under stand the standard Arabic which is the common base for majority of the spoken variations of the language.
4. What is your cultural background?
- Arab
5. How have you learned about your culture? How do you continue to learn?
- I learn through my family members who are abroad and my parents, as this language is my only way to communicate with them. I also have traveled to multiple middle-eastern countries that speak the language and carry similar cultural features.
7. Has your history with your language and/or your culture, influenced your career path in any way?
- Yes, when I was younger, every time my mother took my siblings or I to the hospital she would struggle to find a translator that was able to help her understand what was going on around her. Being a young child I wasn't really able to help because I couldn't comprehend any of what the doctors and nurses would say. As in the United States, the number of refugees and immigrants increase especially with countries that are at war in the moment, I see that this struggle is still present today regardless of how many years have passed by. Even though it may not be as bad as it used to be, having myself study this language in depth will help me gain the ability to help out many of those that might be struggling with language barriers in important fields.
Language:
8. What language will you study in the IBCP Language Development core and why?
- I will be studying Arabic, because I see that this language is on high demand in many fields with very little people.
9. How is this selection relevant to your career path and the future of your projected industry?
- When one works in the medical field and has a strong ability to communicate in a different language, a person that way is able to assist all patient needs and answer all their questions without having the patient feel confused and lost with what is going on around them.
10. What challenges do you feel you many encounter in your language studies?
- I think I will face many challenges when it comes to studying the different dialects of Arabic as they each carry their own unique characteristics.
11. How will you meet those challenges?
- I will try to find the common similarties to help me understand origins of different words.
12. Will you use your target language in the future? Why or why not?
- I absoluteley will use my target language in the future, as it is in high in demand.
13. Why is language study important?
- I think language studies gives a student the ability to shift perspectives. Knowing that each language carries a culture and history behind it, will it not only be knowledge for a person but on the other hand, it will give me the ability to help and understand where the people I will be using the language are coming from and might get a little insight on specific beliefs.
Culture:
14. Do you belong in more than one culture? Explain.
- Possibly. I was born in the United States, and have lived here all my life so I am an American, however my parents are Arab and all my grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. all live in the middle east. And that just kind of puts me in the middle.
15. What languages are spoken in your culture?
- Arabic
16. What do you believe is the relationship between language and culture?
- Culture does influence language and vice versa.
17. Do you have friends or family from a different cultural background? How are they similar? How are they different?
- Yes I do.I have friends from many different places, I think a common struggle there was the language barriers and the confusion of where one belongs between the two cultures they are between. Something common they all have faced when they were younger was the language barriers, which is understandable in this situation.
18. How have different cultural experiences affected you as a person? Be specific.
-
19. How do different cultures influence your projected industry?
- Miscommunication is a problem that is seen often, and with certain issues for example in this case health, it is very important for communication to be extremley clear in order, especially when miscommunication has put many lifes on the line because of the availibility of the language is not there to help the patient.
20. How can an industry be changed by entering a new emerging country and new culture?
- It can increase its variety of language learning classes, which may attract other people and increase its speakers and help ...
